Sarah Bayens is a Belgian violinist whose musical journey began at the age of five. She began her journey with Koen Rens in Turnhout, who laid the foundation for a deep and lasting love of music. Her path led her to the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles, where she refined her craft under Shirly Laub’s guidance. Now based in Vienna, she continues to explore her artistry with Ulf Wallin at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien.
Sarah’s musical life is shaped by curiosity and versatility. She is active as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player. Her work has been recognized with several awards, including the Young Belgian Talent prize and Young Musician of the Year from the Belgian Music Press Association. She also received the Prix Maurice Lefranc and the Prix Colonel de Bisschop from the Brussels Conservatoire.
Sarah has appeared as a soloist with orchestras such as the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège and Casco Phil, among others. Masterclasses with artists such as Hilary Hahn, Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Barnabas Kelemen, etc. have played an important role in her development. She has also performed at various festivals in Belgium and abroad.
Chamber music plays a central role in Sarah’s career. She is a founding member of the Susato Trio, who won first prize at the Génération Classique and Supernova competitions, and third prize at the Premio Trio di Trieste. The trio performs widely in Belgium and beyond. Sarah is also active with Trio Fenix and the ensemble Oxalys.
In the orchestral world, Sarah served as concertmaster of Youth Orchestra Flanders and has performed under conductors such as Stéphane Denève and Edwin Outwater. She has taken part in the orchestral academies of the Belgian National Orchestra and La Monnaie, and is a regular guest with several professional ensembles.
